Lion Pancakes

March 5, 2021 by joannevile@gmail.com 2 Comments

March comes in like a lion…. and goes out like a lamb!

After reading In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb by Marion Dane Bauer, we created lion pancakes with this simple recipe. All you need is fruit, pancakes and a little black frosting to make this adorable lion! Your students and family will enjoy creating this treat for breakfast or for lunch!

Ingredients
  • Frozen or homemade pancakes that are room temperature.
  • Clementine oranges - each lion needs 2 -3 oranges for the mane.
  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blackberries
  • Black decorating icing in a tube.
Instructions
  1. Put one whole pancake in center of plate for the head.
  2. Arrange orange slices around the pancake to create the lion's mane.
  3. Using a cookie cutters or a knife, cut an oval shape and a heart shape out of a second pancake.
  4. Place the upside down heart-shaped pancake over top of the oval-shaped pancake to create the lion's snout and nose.
  5. Cut two banana slices for each eye, cut a blueberry in half and add to the eyes.
  6. Slice a blackberry or strawberry in half and place in the center of the snout for the nose.
  7. Using black icing, draw a line from the lion's snout, add a mouth and a few black spots.
